Who We Are
We are real people, with real jobs, living real lives.
We are pleased to meet you and hope you find our contest site fun and rewarding.
WritingContest100 is the brainchild of Mel Regnell. A 20-year veteran writer, developer and instructor, Regnell left Corporate America to provide technical training at a small private college in New England. She continues to find the lack of writing skills the single most distressing lack in people's education today - both young and old alike.
With a clear understanding that learning something has to be "fun" at some level, she set out to design a writing site that would encourage writers of all ages to take the plunge. And since incentive is an all-important part of today's society, we wrapped the idea inside a contest strategy. However, unlike other writing contests that run for months on end and have thousands of entries which are judged by unknown "experts" while promising little or no reward, WritingContest100 is designed to run many limited-entry contests that deliver a full 50% of the receipts to the winner based on votes of the entrants themselves. |

WC100 CEO
Mel Regnell |
When Captain Roy Reed is not running charters out of his PenobScot Bay-based charter company (Searsport Charters), he is busy at work keeping the WritingContest100 site up and running. Former owner and CEO of an Internet consulting business in the UK, Reed came to the US in 1999 and eventually settled in "DownEast" Maine.
Calling himself the "business end" of the operation, Reed devotes his time to making the site easy to use and efficient. Unknown to members, Reed is often at the helm in the wee small hours of the night keeping a watchful eye on things. |

Our Philosophy
On Writing...
We believe very strongly that people need to exercise their ability to express themselves. In doing so, they expand their horizons, consider new ideas and touch other people. And they practice that which is most miraculous in human existence - communication. We also believe that, sadly, we have become a society of non-writers. |
About Incentives...
We also believe that people do need incentives to make time for activities such as writing. We are all buried under the constant demands for our attention, and many things that we might wish to do are overrun by those things that we are forced to do. Winning a contest, and a prize award is one such incentive. |
|
On Free Enterprise...
Finally, we belive in free enterprise. We are not pretending that we will not make a profit on these contests. However, it is a fair profit and the prize awards often represent more than half of the total fee structure. In addition, we will be creating over 30 contest manager positions which will also generate commission incomes for people in our communities across the country. |
WritingContest100 is an outgrowth of our philosophy. |
