Eligibility
Eligibility for the various contests is based on age.
- Youth - 12 to 14 years of age
- High School - 15 to 18 years of age
- College - 19 to 22 years of age
- Open - Any age
In general, we trust our contest participants to enter the appropriate age category of contest. However, WC100 Administration reserves the right to ask for proof of age in the Youth and High School caontests from any author of an entry that appears to be significantly more sophisticated than its peers.
Content
Content in Open and College contests is not monitored in any way other than the vote of the participating contestants. Content in our High School and Youth contests is randomly reviewed and any content that is deemed by the WC100 Editorial staff to be inappropriate for the age group will be moved to an Open level contest. In addition, all High School and Youth contest pages will have an "Editorial Review Request" button on them that will allow contestants to request a review of specific content. Decisions about content will be made by the WC100 Editorial Staff and are final.
Privacy
All entries will be posted anonymously. WC100 will retain entrant information offline for the payment of cash awards. At no time will any of the personal contact information of an entrant be posted or available from any WC100 web page. Winner may choose to have their names posted along with their winning entries.
Blogs
Each contest has a blog associated with it:
The blogs are used to post your entries for commenting and voting,
Judging
Entries should be judged on the following skills:
- Overall readability
Was it a "good read"? Did it capture and hold the reader's attention?
- Title
Does the title make us interested? Does it relate to the story? After we have read the story, do we understand why the title was chosen?
- Character development
Are the characters believable? Do characters have a rounded personality? Do we know something about them when we are done reading?
- Language usage
Grammar, spelling.
- Plot/Storyline
Is there a clear beginning, middle and end? Does the story flow well? Is there a clear "story".
- Style/Voice
Does the author establish a writing style? Can we hear the author's "voice"?

Voting
- When the number of entries in any contest reaches 100, that contest is closed and the next one is opened. Voting for any contest will remain open for ten (10) days, or, until all entrants have voted.
- Entrants
All entrants in the closed contest are then emailed a Voting Notification.
This email includes a link to the Voting URL and the date and time that voting will close.
ONLY the entrants in a particular contest have access to the voting URL.
Entrants visit that URL to vote for the entry of their choice.
Entrants MAY NOT vote for their own submission. (This prevents us from having 100 entries with 1 vote each!)
Click here to see a sample Voting URL page.
- Non-Entrants
At the same time, posts on the Contest Blog that is being closed for Voting, are marked as "In Voting".
A poll is opened on the Contest Blog and all Non-Entrants are invited to vote through the Poll.
The entry with the most votes through polling is given 3 extra votes.
The runner-up is given 2 extra votes.
- WC100 Editorial Judges
WC100 will also assign a judge or judges to a voting contest.
One for a youth contest; two for a high school contest; 3 for college and 4 for open.
Judges have 1 vote each and vote for the entry they believe best represents the stated skills.
- Given this voting profile the maximum number of votes a winning entry can receive is:
(99 from all entrants other then themselves) + (3 as the winner of the non-entrant poll) + (1, 2, 3 or 4 from WC100 judges)
103 for a Youth Contest
